Monferrato Cabernet Sauvignon – 2008 Accornero Centenario

12 January, 2018 2008 Accornero Centenario  “Classic CS – aromas, flavors, structure – though by classic, I mean the Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa and Sonoma that I began drinking twenty years ago (and those were largely 10-20 years old already). So that classic. Has nothing to do with the CS that most are opening today, a year or less after release, bereft of tannins/structure. This is medium-bodied, with bright raspberry, soil, herbs and forest, and in the background, the lightest touch of cherry. A fairly linear experience, though it never became boring. In fact, I continually found myself smiling as the wine was packed with character along with a solid sense of variety and place. A good weeknight choice, with the 14,5% (listed) abv coming across more like 13,0-13,5%. Reminded me of why l like CS…when it’s raised this way. No (noticeable) oak, dry, medium finish; no polish, just grape and place…and maybe even some love. Humble, honest, and very good with food. And, a terrific value. Now thru 2022recommended+

100% Cabernet Sauvignon, manual harvest, raised in Tonneau (various ages) after ~18 days of maceration; first bottled in 1995.
